The reason I started Rebound Stronger Podcast

Hi there. I’m Fauzi Djauhari.  First and foremost thank you for taking your time to visit my website.

I’ve always have big ambitions and goals. I always want to be No. 1, the top of my class and field.  I didn’t always achieve my goals even though I worked hard. I really worked hard to deliver the best I could especially in my professional life.  I have to admit that I was too focused with my career.  It was always on the first priority, no matter what, above my family members and my own priorities.  I love what I am doing and I want to be good at it. I am always pushing my boundaries, my operating envelope (we say this in my field, each equipment in the plant has it operating envelope where it can perform). Because I keep on pushing myself, I didn’t realize that I am setting myself for failure.  It is destined, at some point my skills are not yet match with my goals.  But I haven’t learned that.  When I failed, I blamed myself, maybe I’m not good enough, not smart enough, maybe I didn’t work hard enough, etc. (you got the point).  I have all these negative thoughts which make the situation worse.  I hadn’t realized that we fail our way to success.

I believe every person and his or her circumstances are unique and we all fight our own unique battle.  The battle can be physical disabilities, health issues, economic or financial situations, lack of educations, lack of confidence, physical or verbal abuse from others, etc.  We all faced difficulties or setbacks.  Sometime we win and we lose and want to give up. Sometimes we couldn’t see a better future, we couldn’t see a way out from the situation we are in.  It is hard to pull ourselves up when we are in the lowest point.  I was fortunate to have support from family members and friends. Reading books and listening to motivational video from youtube also help me in those moments.

I also believe there is no such thing as an overnight success.  Sometimes we do not see the journey taken by successful people.  Sometimes we only see the glamourous success, the award, the medal.  We don’t know them when they were not famous, when they were rejected, the tears, the disappointment, the failures, the hard work, the sacrifice, the persistence, etc. They are successful because they fail more than we do, they overcome their fear and got back up every time they fall.  Just like how Sylvia Duckworth describe in her illustration below, Success is Iceberg.

Success is an Iceberg

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost almost 300 games.  26 tiems I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

This website is the home of my other’s life works. I document key lessons I learned from people I interviewed who have overcome adversities, became stronger and achieved greater successes.  I also write around my passions in personal development (especially in leadership) and entrepreneurship (especially social enterprise).  I love reading books and listening to audiobooks.  I will also summarize takeaways from the books.  Key takeaways which resonate with me and I can apply and take action.

I am not an expert in motivation or personal development, but I’m happy to share what I’ve learned so far. I hope it will help both you and me to stay positive, look for learning points and keep progressing to come out from our low points. I believe that our past does not dictate our present and future.

“There is no way other than up, when we are rock bottom.”

A little bit about myself

I originally from Jakarta, Indonesia and now live in Singapore.

I studied chemical engineering in Institut Teknologi Bandung.  After about 9 years working I decided to study further while working and completed my MBA from National University of Singapore in 2013. I have been working in oil and gas industry for about 14 years.  I currently work for Advisian, the consulting arm of WorleyParsons Group. I mainly involved in front end design and feasibility studies for LNG terminals in different parts of the world.

My wife, Mei is my source of strength.  She worked hard to provide the best care and guidance to both our angels Bella and Emma. (I do chip in and will increase my share in future).  We enjoy walking and riding bicycles at parks.

I am passionate about business, especially in social enterprise.  I am currently exploring to start my own business.  The podcast will be launched on 28th March 2016.  Starting and setting up this podcast bring lots of joy to me because I got to interact with lots of people and learn so many new things.
